i've got a whole lot of mystery

So there has been quite a lot of scrapping around here of late, mostly because the going out portion of life is something that i do not want to enter into at the moment. It is too cold and i am too miserable, and i don't want to impose my woeful demeanor on anyone else. i spent most of yesterday afternoon on some secret projects. i'm still waiting for some photos to be printed so i will have to share that another time. In the meantime i can share these:

So there's not much else to comment on apart from i'm really happy that Tommy won the Orange Unsigned Act (which is waaaaaay better than X-Factor) and that if you haven't already seen Slumdog Millionaire then you really must! i saw it about 10 days ago and it is still on my mind.

My Week ...

...in other people's pictures (in no particular order).

1. Progress, 2. orange, 3. button*love, 4. Cruella De Ville, 5. Sushi!, 6. CAR SICK, 7. Josh Pyke, 8. Gossip Girl, 9. Icy car

As my good friend Ben once said (in a text to me this week) 'Randomness is the name of the game!'

History in the making

This makes me angry.

This fills me with hope. Let him bring good.

It does worry me some that we are all placing our faith in this one man. Let us not be disappointed! i wish for everyone to contribute to the change that is needed, it will not happen on it's own.

p.s. This dude rocks too.

In that place again

Can't decide what i want from life. Don't want to stay. Don't want to go. It seems i will forever want to walkabout, but i know it will not ulitmately fulfill me. This photo has no relevance to this post whatsoever, i just like it. Looking through my travel photos makes me happy + sad all in one go. i'm on a perpetual happy + sad merry-go-round.

New Hair

i've had my hair coloured...

and it's kind of dark..

and it wasn't exactly what i had planned..

i'm still getting my head around it.. but i think i like it. It's nice to have a change & it suits the winter.

What say you?

(And yes it really has grown this long all on it's own!)

Note to Self: No Flash = blurryness = more flattering.

52Q

So Emily is doing an art journal project this year & has invited people to play along. Go check it out if you want to join in the fun. You can also join the Flickr Group here.

Em also ran a simliar thing in 07 which i started and never got very far with. i figured this year i might actually stick to it if i had a base to work on, so i've made this little book compiled of all manner of things including cardboard, envelopes, paper bags, playing cards, tags, graph paper & book pages. i'm not planning on keeping anything in order, so each week i can just pick a page and create something on it, or even make it double sided if needs be. And there's plenty of room to add more stuff as i go on throughout the year. This little book makes me happy. i've used lot's of bits of stuff that did not have a home anywhere else & i've managed to get some recylcing done in the process.

question 1: what do i wish for this year to bring?

At first i was planning to paint an impression with the lace, but that didn't work out too well so i just ended up painting the lace and sticking it right on. This is the fun part. The playing & making mistakes can often lead you to better things.

Excited for 52 weeks of making stuff.

So after much meandering and ummmming and ahhhhing i finally booked tickets for Coldplay (with Girls Aloud supporting!! - my guilty pleasure!). i have wanted to see them live for such a very long time, i even have one of their concerts on DVD!! The reason i have dillydallyed so long is because a)the cost b) it takes quite a lot of effort to get up and down to London c) i'm not the hugest fan of arena gigs (prefer more intimate ones).

But yesterday was one of those really tough days that makes you question your own mortality & affirm that you really should get the most out of life while you can. And i am hoping that i never get to the stage of my life where days like these are a regular occurance, because i just don't think i have the strength.

So i was listening to Viva La Vida (which i belive you will love even if you are a Coldplay hater) this morning in the car on the way to work, thinking how brilliant it is and how i should bloody well go and see them live because it is surely to be fantastic and i knew i would regret not going if they never did another gig again.

So what i'm trying to say is: Do what makes you happy. Make sure your life is full of moments that fill you with joy & make you feel alive. Surround yourself with people you love. Create Perfect days. You never know when your last one will be.

OK, now i've done my little 'live every day like it's your last' speech (i like to remind myself as much as you) here's some other music i love right now:

Marmaduke Duke
Mute Math
White Lies
Red Light Company

And you must check out Lovers in Japan Video for it's awesomeness. Does anyone know how they do that squiggly light?

And some more...

A few using RVCK again (just to prove i'm using it!)

Inspired by a page in Elsies Recipe Book.

And a few from my own stash (just to prove i use it!)
Sometimes it's nice to use lots of stuff

Photo credit Jake Austin Watts (taken at age 4).

And sometimes it's just about words + pictures

Yay for scrappyness!

RVKC

i've been doing quite a bit of scrapping this week, i've done lots for my travel album, mostly pages with lots of photos & / or journalling with not much prettyness, so i won't bother to share them here. However, i have had some fun playing with some Red Velvet Kit's.

Hello 2009

Saw in the New Year with some of my very favourite people, inbetween snoozes. i just couldn't deal with the whole house party schbang this year, so it was dvd's, pizza, cocktail sausages, Cadbury's fingers and Cherryade for us!

Lately i am very tired and cold and this does not make for a happy Alexa. However, i am looking forward to a new year and what it has to bring (mostly i am very excited for summer to be here).

Some big goals for this year:

* move out
* take a trip to the big apple
* go to a music festival
* take art & design classes

Hmm, these will require lots of money so i guess i should add in:

* get finances in control

And a few other things i need to make more time for:
* creating stuff
* reading books
* visiting long distance friends more often!

Film's i am very excited for in 09:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
New Moon
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (although still pissed off they moved the release date so far back)
He’s Just not that into you
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
7 pounds
The Reader
Watchmen
Sherlock Holmes
Angels & Demons
Frost/Nixon
Revolutionary Road
Defiance
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Valkyrie
The Ugly Truth
The Soloist
My Sister’s Keeper
New York, I Love You

i am intending to spend most of my free time in January in the cinema seeing as there are so many good films coming out and it is way too cold to be outside anyways.

Hope 2009 brings you only good things!
